a bit ABOUT
Hi, I’m Jake. My work takes many forms — puppeteer, poeteer, actor, singer, consultant, coach — but it’s all driven by a love of telling engaging stories for multigenerational audiences, stories that speak to the wisdom in children and the wonder in grown-ups.
In my own grand attempt at searching through stories, I’ve found my favorite bits of wisdom and wonder often live on the other side of secret doors. Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, the worlds of Roald Dahl and J.K. Rowling, of Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood: these stories that connect the present with the possible, these are the stories that wrote me. Now, every so often, I open a secret door too.
I’ve toured the US with the Jim Henson Company, collaborated with picture book legends Eric Carle and Sandra Boynton, and have worked off-Broadway (in the original cast of the Drama Desk-nominated The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show amongst others), at Seattle Children’s Theatre, at Town Hall, on Sesame Street, with Sesame Street in Communities, and with The Muppets.
I’m an alum of the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory and the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, and I’ve had the pleasure of writing, studying, and teaching on the Highlights Foundation campus, the original home of Highlights Magazine. I’m an animation voiceover/puppetry coach with Great Big Voices, and I’ve independently designed puppetry and character development workshops for Prospect Theatre Company, Two River Theatre Company, and the Mid-Atlantic Voiceover Conference. Currently, I’m developing my debut picture book and serving as the Associate Director on the North American and Japanese Tours of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.
I live in a small house in a big city called New York.
